Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Cell Development Engineer to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative team environment. This position will work closely with both the R&D and cell engineering teams accelerating identification of key materials and design parameters to enable widescale deployment of Solid Power’s ASSB technology.

Job Duties:

  • Support cell design & development efforts throughout the product development cycle.
  • Identify the relationship between material properties, cell performance, and manufacturing yields.
  • Propose DOE and test plans to elucidate electrochemical data and performance.
  • Support Cell Dev-Process SME’s in identifying critical parameters to our design.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on electrochemical and material impact during risk assessment and root cause analyses.
  • Support Research and Development’s screening, down-selection, and specification efforts for carbon, binders, and active materials for incorporation into Solid Power’s ASSB cells.
  • Manage material specifications related to the EBOM.
  • Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.
  • Assist Quality in identification of correct characterization technique and specifications for Solid Power’s ASSB cells.

Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • PhD or master’s degree in chemistry, physics, or materials engineering.
  • 0-3 (PhD) or 3-5 (MS) years of experience working in cell development in a professional (non-academic) environment.
  • Experience with equivalent circuit modeling of LIBs.
  • In-depth knowledge of battery grade binders, carbons, and Ni-rich cathode materials.
  • In-depth knowledge on conversion anode and cathode materials for Li-ion batteries.
  • Experience with APQP (or related) product development process.
  • Experience creating and managing engineering documentation.
  • Experience supporting FMEA activities.
  • Experience in the use of statistical design (D.O.E.) with relevant software experience (Minitab, Jump, Concerto, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of Li-ion battery cell materials, operation, performance, and failure modes.
  • Strong technical communication skills and facility for communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences.


Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000 annually
