Position Overview:Solid Power is seeking a Sr. Process Engineer to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. This position is a key role in the engineering group, and critical in helping transition Solid Power technology to market.The main responsibilities include developing and maturing Solid Power cell electrode processing equipment, processing techniques and procedures. The preferable candidate will have direct experience with the design and construction of new or improved manufacturing space, experience specifically in the lithium ion battery industry is a plus. Knowledge of key processes like powder and coated materials handling, fluid transport and fluid mixing along with experience handling of hazardous and flammable materials will be necessary.This position will be involved in the execution of the cell pilot and production operations working closely with the Pilot Line Managers, Production Operators, R&D staff and other Engineers. This candidate will help install, commission and improve the next levels of processing technology needed to mature Solid Power’s solid state battery technology. Excellent communication and organizational skills required.This is a temporary position.
Job Duties:
- Work with product design groups, engineering functions, automation group, and equipment vendors to design, specify and install new and improved lithium ion cell processing equipment in support of technology development and process maturation
- Implementation of on-line/off-line test methodologies for development and production control of new products
- Utilize 6 sigma techniques to identify and quantify areas for process improvements
- Using pilot scale experience, collaborate with future customers around the world to assure smooth transfer of unique Solid Power cell manufacturing technology
- Develop new/novel processes to support product development
- Work collaboratively with leaders in other departments to meet and exceed customer deliverables
- Use the company’s document and change control system to properly archive technical documentation
- Document new capabilities with detailed SOPs and work instructions
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years in a R&D or Productions environment
- 1+ years in a leadership position
- Demonstrated success in the design, construction, and commissioning of new or improved manufacturing space
- 6 Sigma Black Belt certification a plus
- Familiarity with mechanical and electrical fundamentals of pilot and production equipment
- Demonstrated emphasis on safety
- Hands-on experience working with hazardous materials, dry powder processes, and wet chemical/slurry and solvent-based operations.
- Familiarity with PLC controlled robotics and instrumentation a plus
